When Ford introduced the Mustang on April 17, 1964, at the New York World's Fair, they not only took the world by storm, but created an entirely new market segment affectionately dubbed Pony Cars. With a stylish short deck and long hood inspired by sporty European cars the Mustang was a runaway success, surpassing even the expectations of the Ford executives.

The high-performance K-code Mustangs are the first rear performance models. Featuring a 289 cubic-inch, 271 horsepower V8 engine, these high-winding small blocks would quickly establish the Mustang as a hot little performer, when the right boxes were checked on the option list!

This particular example is a GT convertible in Night Mist Blue with the optional K-code 289 engine, backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The extensive list of options includes the Rally Pac, the Pony interior, full console, wood grain steering wheel, an AM 8-track radio, power top, front disc brakes, bullet style dual mirrors, dual red-stripe tries and the ultra-rare rear deck lid luggage rack. Another rarely seen option is the illuminated grille pony light, making this one a true stand out.

Restored in 2003, this prime example of an early high performance Mustang has been shown throughout the country, garnering numerous national awards. Among them are AACA 1st Junior and Senior awards and several AACA Grand National awards, along with Mustang Club of America Gold awards.
