1932 Packard Model 906 Twin Six Navigation
Packard Twelves were produced from 1932 through 1939. The 1934 Packard Series 1108, with its 147-inch wheelbase, was the largest of the three chassis options and was used for the most luxurious cars. Most of these Packard Twelves received factory bodywork - only a few were treated to custom coachwork from the great coachbuilders of the era. The Individual Customs, which were produced on Super Eight and Twelve chassis from 1932 to 1934, were the most prestigious - desirable - and expensive of the Dietrich-bodied cars.
The Convertible Sedan was the only open four-door body style offered by Dietrich in 1934, of which only ten or so have survived, making it an exceptionally rare and desirable example. It was sold new by the Earle C. Anthony dealership in Los Angeles, the sole Packard distributor for California from 1915 to 1958. It has been meticulously restored by marque expert Steve Babinsky of Lebanon, New Jersey. Babinsky confirms that the body has never been off the chassis and the matching numbers confirm the origin of this exceptional survivor.
Under the hood, this Packard is powered by a 445.6 cubic-inch modified L-head V-12 engine producing 160 horsepower, with a top speed of about 90 mph. It also sports a three-speed selective synchromesh manual transmission, vacuum-assisted clutch, shaft drive with a hypoid rear axle, front and rear leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel vacuum-assisted mechanical drum brakes.
