1970 AMC Javelin Fastback Coupe

Many consider 1970 as the pinnacle year for the muscle car. It seems that all of the manufacturers were vying for the spotlight. With incredible high-performance engines, wild colors and a wide variety of options, it wasn't an easy task! American Motors would step right up and succeed in taking its own place in the spotlight.

Introduced in 1968, American Motors would fight for their slice of the pie in the Pony Car wars with the all-new Javelin. After a late start, they knew they had to get it right to be noticed and to grab market share. With active participation in SCCA-sanctioned Trans Am racing, their Javelin would certainly take its place in history.

With noted race driver Mark Donahue on board, they knew they had an excellent opportunity to capitalize on his fame and image. With a new top-of-the-line option package named in his honor, the Mark Donahue Javelin would become one of the most sought-after American Motors offerings ever built. The package includes unique graphics, a rear deck spoiler, a Ram Air hood and more.

This fine example has been restored to as-delivered condition. It features the 390 cubic-inch 4-barrel V8 engine, the highest performance offering for the 1970 model year, along with the wild Big Bad Blue paint. Although exact production figures for Big Bad Javelins are unknown, it is believed fewer than 80 were produced.
