1970 Mitsubishi Colt Galant GTO MR Hardtop Coupe

This Mitsubishi Colt Galant is a prime example of Mitsubishi's first venture into building a sporty car. The original exterior design was penned by Hiroaki Kamisago, who studied at the Art Center College of Design located in Los Angeles, California. Featuring a long deck, short hood, and quad headlights, along with numerous other American styling influences, many consider it one of the earliest Japanese 'Pony' cars.

The Colt Galant was offered with three different 1600 cc engines. This top-of-the-line GTO MR model is powered by a 1600 cubic centimeter, dual overhead cam 4-cylinder twin carbureted engine backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. It is a very spirited performer.

An impressive list of standard features, along with a sporty suspension package and smooth styling, make this one of the most desirable Japanese collector cars of the 1970s. Offered for just one year, a mere 540 of these cars were produced in 1970.

This is the only known example currently registered in the United States.
