Purchased and modified immediately after World War II, Bob and Dick Pierson's 1935 Ford served double duty as both an elegant street-driven custom, and a record-setting, lakes-driven race car. The chromed-out and all-leather interior was luxurious and comfortable, especially for the time, but the Edelbrock equipped stroked and bored race motor made it one of the fastest coupes of the late 1940s.
Both Bob and Dick Pierson were early employees of Vic Edelbrock Sr. and, along with engine builder Bobby Meeks. They had access to the newest and best speed technology of the time. During the few years that they raced the 1936, they remained at the top of their class. Their fastest reported one way time was 140 mph in 1950, which was unheard of for a coupe. Due to its notoriety, the 1936 was featured on the cover of Hotrod Magazine in 1948 in its stripped down, race guise.
Eventually, the Pierson brothers built their famous 2D 1934 Coupe, and the 1936 was used to flat tow the 1934 to races. Both cars ran through 1950, often simultaneously, which required them to share motors and parts between the two cars. The current owner located the car in Los Angeles in 2009, and eventually commissioned Bill Ganahl of South City Rod and Custom to restore the coupe back to its exact appearance in Hotrod Magazine in 1948.
