1930 DuPont Model G Town Car

This 1930 duPont Model G Merrimac Town Car was the 1958 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Best of Show winner. Owned by J.B. Nethercutt, its restoration led to the first of his record six Best of Show wins at Pebble Beach.

Mr. Nethercutt was on his way home in 1956 after just arranging the purchase of a Duesenberg. Along the way, he spotted this duPont parked at a corner filling station. At the time the car was in poor shape, devoid of bumpers, and the interior fabric was in torn condition. Its stance, size, and prominence appealed to Mr. Nethercutt and he purchased it and took it home. A restoration followed that took nineteen months and $65,000.

Upon its completion, it was shown at the 1958 midwinter meeting of the Classic Car Club of America, held in Skytop, Pennsylvania where it earned 99 3/4 points. Mr. Nethercutt and his wife, Dorothy, drove the car from Santa Monica to Pebble Beach for the 1958 Concours. Along their journey, they traveled over a freshly oiled road. When they arrive at Pebble Beach, the Nethercutts cleaned it themselves, using water with a bit of kerosene.
