The first Opel car to carry the Kadett name was presented in 1936 by Heinrich Nordhoff, who later led the rebuilding of Volkswagen. It was a small and relatively inexpensive family car. The Kadett was re-introduced in the post-war period in 1962 to compete directly with VWs. The Sports Coupe variant are the rarest of this series. It is powered by the Super Compression, 56 horsepower version of Opel's 993 cc overhead valve inline 4-cylinder engine, and equipped with a 4-speed manual synchromesh transmission.
This example is one of only two known remaining in the United States. It was originally purchased by an engineer in Livermore in 1964 at Turner Buick in Hayward (CA), who passed it down to his daughter. She kept it stored for many years unused before the current owner acquired it.
