In 1967 Porsche introduced the semi-convertible Targa - Italian for shield although chosen because of Porsche's victories in the Sicilian Targa Florio road race. The car featured a wide stainless steel-wrapped roll bar to which was clipped a removable roof panel and a 'zippered, soft rear window.' (An optional fixed glass rear windshield followed in 1968.) The roof concept was first used by Triumph with their TR4 in 1961 - they called it a Surrey Top. The 1972 911T specification claimed 140 horsepower in the USA using MFI - mechanical fuel injection. Unique to 1972 models was the oil filler door on the right rear fender - not for gasoline. It was removed the following year - for obvious reasons.
