Powering the Porsche 924 Carrera GT was a turbocharged version of the 924's 1984cc engine plus the addition of an intercooler. The Type 931 Turbo produced 175 horsepower, and with the addition of an intercooler, horsepower in the 924 Carrera GT rose to 210 BHP.
In 1980 Porsche needed to homologate a Group 4 924 race car, although the racers were eventually entered in the GTP Carrera GT. A number of 911 parts were used as well including Fuchs alloy wheels, and some 406 examples were built.
