1928 Chrysler Series 62 Estate Wagon

Introduced in mid-1926 as the Series 60, Chrysler's Series 62 for 1928 was essentially a carry-over from the previous years as the Company's small six-cylinder chassis. Seven factory body styles were available, ranging from $1,075 to $1,235. Standard equipment included an electric gas gauge, hydraulic brakes, a dash-mounted ignition lock, and light controls mounted on the steering wheel. Total production for the Series 62 was 76,857 units.

This example of an early station wagon was custom built for Chrysler's CFO B.E. Hutchinson and is fitted with a handcrafted Estate Wagon body by the H.H. Babcock Company of Watertown, NY (in business from 1845 - 1928). Starting life as a bare commercial chassis (which was strictly for export), it features three-row seating, a large right-side rear access door, and roll-up side curtains for weather protection. Henry H. Babcock was the head of the H.H. Babcock Company of Watertown, New York which was later incorporated as the H.H. Babcock Buggy Company. By 1909 they were in the business of manufacturing automobiles. Between 1909 to 1912 they produced hundreds of automobiles, along with Babcock carriages which were held in high regard for their craftsmanship and build quality. During World War I the company showed its support by manufacturing ambulance bodies and stretchers. The craftsmanship led them to gain a reputation in the business as one of the finest producers of ambulances, hearses, and a leader in the manufacture of coachwork automobile bodies.

The wheelbase measures 109 inches and is powered by a 180 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine offering 54 horsepower.
