1917 Hudson Series J 7-Passenger Phaeton

  • Chassis Number: J 5137
  • Engine Number: 41443
1917 Hudson Series J Navigation
The Hudson Super Six was powered by the first company-built engine. The engine featured a four-bearing crankshaft with eight counter-weights, large valves, and a high 5.0:1 compression ratio.

For 1917, the Hudsons featured built-in radiator shutters which ran horizontally. The 1917 Hudson was divided into the Model H and the Model J, both powered by a 289 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine offering nearly 30 horsepower. Both the Model H and J had a 125.5-inch wheelbase, three-speed manual transmission, and rear-wheel mechanical drum brakes.

This 7-Passenger Phaeton has a Boyce Motometer radiator cap, factory optional front and rear bumpers, Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels, and side-mounted spares with proper badged chains. The dashboard has Stewart gauges, and the odometer shows 8,209 miles which is believed to be the distance it has traveled since the restoration was completed.

Richard Roy purchased this car from Jim Carpenter in October 1963.

The Hudson is painted blue and black with a black leather interior.
