1933 Pierce-Arrow Model 1242 Twelve Convertible Roadster

It is believed that five Series 1242 Convertible Coupe Roadsters were built in 1933, and just three examples have survived. This is one of those three and is one of two to retain its original engines.

The Convertible Coupe Roadsters had a convertible top, a low windshield, and side windows. The Pierce-Arrow V12 engine was a 264 cubic-inches side-valve unit offering 175 horsepower and mated to a three-speed manual transmission.

The original owner of this car was George F. Tyler, of Newton, Pennsylvania. It remained in Mr. Tyler's care until his passing in 1947 and was then sold by his estate to Kathryn Clark Sutton. She too kept the car for the remainder of her life. It was bequeathed in 1963 to her son, James Jr., who retained it until 1989 and then sold it to Edward Perkins, of Guilford, Connecticut. Ownership soon transferred to Andrew Darling of Minnesota and remained with him until his passing in 1996. The next owner was Dr. Joseph Murphy who sold it to Dave Humbert in the early 2000s. Mr. Humbert kept the car for the next 13 years before selling it to its current owner.
