1930 LaSalle Model 340 Tourer

The LaSalle was smaller and lighter than the Cadillac. It featured a similar chassis but powered by a scaled-down L-head V-8 engine and - for 1927 - offered in 11 standard body styles, all built by Fisher. LaSalle also offered four custom Fleetwood models, with the most expensive selling for $4,700. A few years later, in 1930, Fleetwood offered six bodies, including the Fleetlands Touring, of which only 239 were originally built.

This particular example wears body number 81. It has its original engine and body, and left the factory as a right-hand-drive model, sold through the General Motors Export Department to a buyer in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The current caretaker acquired the car seven years ago, at the car corral at Hershey. It wears an older, frame-off restoration, during which time the steering was relocated to the left. It is finished in two-tone green, with matching wire wheels, dual side-mounted spares, wind wings, and driving lights. The engine is an L-head V8 unit displacing 340 cubic inches and offering 90 horsepower. There is a three-speed manual transmission and four-wheel mechanical brakes.
