1979 Lincoln Mark V Hardtop Coupe

The late-1960s were a brilliant time for horsepower and performance. Entering the 1970s, the industry adjusted due to safety concerns and fuel shortages. Luxury and smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles became the focus for most automakers. Lincoln, however, continued to produce large, full-sized luxury vehicles. In 1977, the Lincoln Continentals reached their ultimate form as the Mark V, before the downsizing trend began to diminish its stature as the largest luxury car in America.

In 1973, Lincoln began offering the Continental with various arrays of special luxury group packages, first in Silver and Cranberry Luxury Groups. In 1975, Lincoln began offering the popular Lipstick and White Luxury Group.

This particular unrestored example has the Lipstick and White Luxury Group and nearly every available option and power accessory except a moon roof, which was not available with the carriage roof option seen here. The car is finished in special-order Lipstick Red with a White Luxury Group interior. The car was sold new at Breakey Motors in Walton, New York with an MSRP of $18,679.

This car was driven just 350 until 2009 and currently shows just 2,093 miles. Power is from a 400 CID V8 with Select-Shift automatic, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, power windows, locks and seats, an AM/FM radio with CB radio and tape player, turbine-style aluminum wheels with Whitewall radial tires.
