2005 Porsche 911 GT3 Navigation
The Porsche 911 GT3 was given its name from the FIA Group GT3 in which it raced. The first generation Mark I GT3 road car never made it to North America, but they did get the second-generation Mark II, which was introduced in 2004. The rear-engine rear-wheel drive road-going race car was devoid of creature comforts and was the descendant of the Porsche RS, or race sport. The GT3 did not have sound deadening material, rear seats, and other non-essential items, giving it an overall weight of just 3,043 pounds.
The 3.6L naturally aspirated flat six-cylinder engine produced 380 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. Most of the torque was available lower in the RPM range, which when combined with a limited-slip differential gave the GT3 a 0-60 mph in just four seconds. The engine was mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
In the front were six-piston calipers with four-piston calipers in the rear. These efficient brakes could slow the car from 60 miles per hour in less than 100 feet. Exterior race-tuned aerodynamic features include a low chin spoiler, under car panels, and rear wing.
Although the GT3 is known for its lack of creature comforts, this particular example has air conditioning, stitched leather door, dash, shift knob, and center console trim. It has a multi-function remote with trunk lease, and a telescoping steering wheels.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2016
