1960 Messerschmitt KR200 Navigation
The bubble-top microcar, the Messerschmitt KR200, was produced for less than a decade primarily to appease the financial struggles that came along with the post-war slump in Germany. They feature tandem seating for two in a small, three-wheeled body powered by a 191cc two-stroke engine capable of producing nearly ten horsepower. It was lightweight and aerodynamic, capable of reaching speeds of 55 MPH while attaining an impressive 60-100 MPG.
The bubble top opens on a hinge and hangs off to one side. Inside, there is a handlebar steering wheel which is reminiscent of the fighter planes of World War II.
The KR200, known as the Kabinenroller (loosely translated to cabin scooters), wore a design by aircraft engineer Fritz Fend after the company was forbidden to produce planes.
This particular example was once part of the Bob Johnson Collection. It earned an AACA National First Place, and AACA Grand National First Place in 2008 and 2010, respectively. It was given a thorough restoration in 2008 and is finished in Red glossy paint and a contrasting Black interior. It rides on Whitewall tires and wire-lock hubcaps. It has a 191cc engine and 4-speed transmission.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2016
