Production of the Lamborghini Countach lasted from 1974 to 1990. Its design both popularized and pioneered the wedge-shaped, sharply angled look and the 'cabin-forward' design required to fit a large, mid-mounted engine. The exotic design continued to its equally impressive scissor doors which were hinged at the front with horizontal hinges, so that they lifted up and tilted forward. Over the vehicle's lifespan, the engine displacement rose from 4-liters to 4.7-liters to 5.2-liters. They originally rode on Michelin XWXs of the early 1970s to the much wider P-7 tires of the late 1970s to massive Pirelli P Zeros.
Lamborghini produced 658 examples of the 25th Anniversary edition, named to honor the company's twenty-fifth anniversary in 1988. This was the final evolution of the Countach line. They were mechanically similar to the 5000QV but were considerably restyled. The rear 'air-box' intake ducts were extended and enlarged, the secondary pair of debossed ducts were relocated, and the fins now ran longitudinally rather than transversely. The engine-bay cover was given a centre-raised section incorporating dual-ducting. In the back was a rear bumper which extended outwardly from the lower portion. The fin strakes within the primary rear-intake-ducts opening provided crucial improved engine cooling, though appeared to mimic the Ferrari Testarossa.
The 25th Anniversary models rode on 15-inch alloy three-piece wheels with the famed five-vent design manufactured by O.Z. Racing and clothed with Pirelli P-Zero 345/35 ZR15. The suspension was modified to match the new Pirelli P Zero tires and the interior featured wider electric adjustable seats and power windows with much improved A/C.
Although the styling changes were unpopular with many, the 25th Anniversary Countach outsold the QV model.
This particular example is a late-production model that was built in January of 1990 and delivered new to a Montreal, Quebec, Lamborghini dealer finished in Rosso Perlato with a tan leather interior accented with Red piping. It is one of only four believed to be produced with this combination. The car remained in Montreal until being exported in 2015 to Florida, where it won Best in Class at the Amelia Island Festivals of Speed. The car has its original tool roll, U.S.-specification owner's manual, and just 3,124 kilometers on the odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2016
