The Toyota Land Cruiser began as a prototype in 1951 and saw use during the Korean War. It has been in production longer than any other vehicle manufactured by Toyota and is commonly known as the Toyota Jeep. The early model had a B-Type, 3.4-liter inline-6 gasoline engine and fitted into a SB-Type, 1-ton truck chassis. After being rejected by the National Police and military installations in favor of the Willys, full-scale production began for the BJ in August of 1953.
This Toyota BJ-40 Land Cruiser was owned by the same Costa Rican family until 2014. It was parked from 1984 through 2014. Power is from a 3000cc inline-4 B-Type diesel engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. It has a four-wheel drive system with locking hubs.
