1972 AMC Gremlin Navigation
The AMC Gremlin was produced from 1970 through 1978. They rode on a shortened Hornet platform and featured a hatchback tail. By the time production came to a close, 671,475 examples were produced.
The Gremlin was AMC's compact 'economy' car.
AMC sold 94,808 examples of their Gremlin in 1972, with 10,949 of those fitted with a V8 engine. The six-cylinder engine fitted nicely in the two-door, 4 seater hatchback, but the V8 required modifications to the drivetrain and the suspension components. Standard equipment included a dome light, rubber floor mats, trunk mat, heater and defroster, ashtrays, front armrests, and fold-down rear seats.
As a relatively inexpensive car, they rusted as fast as any other car built in the 1970s. Thus, very few have survived.
This particular example is a small bumper example with just 25,000 original miles on the odometer. It has its original paint, original interior, and the optional 'Big' 258 CID six-cylinder engine. The engine is mated to the optional Torque-Command auction. It is finished in its original factory-applied Canary yellow with original factory Black Rally Side Stripes, a two-tone interior featuring the optional Bucket Seat and Custom Trim Package and AMC Rally wheels. This Gremlin is also equipped with the factory-installed Air Conditioning Package which included air conditioning, tinted glass, power steering and additional insulation. Further factory options on this car include power brakes, rear vent windows, luggage rack, AM push-button radio, the Interior Appointment package, door sill scuff moldings and the factory clear vinyl floor mats that remain with the car today.By Daniel Vaughan | Feb 2016
