In 1957 the 250-range of Ferraris was graced with a number of cabriolets designed by Pinin Farina. The car quickly became one of the most sought after by the elite of the 1950s and remains so among today's most astute collectors of the Prancing Horse. It appeared for the first time at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show with production of customer cars commencing during the second half of that year. Production continued through the summer of 1959 when an upgraded Series II model was introduced. Ferrari introduced the short-wheelbase 250GT in 1959, though it produced its first car to use the 250GT nomenclature in late-1954. Using a Pininfarina design built by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, this car is pwoered by a 276 hrosepwoer 2952cc Colombo V-12.
This 250 GT is the last of 55 SWB California Spyders built between 1960 and 1963. It features a 2953cc V12 engine offering 275 horsepower, 4-wheel disc brakes, sport suspension, 4-speed manual transmission and Borrani wire wheels with knock-off hubs. The covered headlamp coachwork by Scaglietti was unique to only 37 cars. At only 2200 lbs, the California Spyder could reach speeds of 166 mph.
