1976 Chevrolet Corvette Widebody

The Spirit of Sebring Widebody Greenwood Corvette race car is the first of the Greenwood Corvette customer cars built by John Greenwood. This car was sold in 1975 to businessmen Jim Levitt of Levittown, Pennsylvania. Although Jim never drove the car, he financed the racing team during the late 1975 and 1976 IMSA road racing seasons. This was John Greenwood's research and development race car. It was one of two front and rear coil over suspension cars. Additionally, the frame and fiberglass bodywork have been lightened in order to reduce overall weight. The Spirit of Sebring was featured in the March 1976 issue of Road and Track magazine with a street car versus race car comparison. The Road and Track road test calculated 0 to 150 mph in 18 seconds. It has an eight-cylinder 600+ cubic-inch 980 horsepower engine with Kinsler Cross Ram fuel injection and a Muncie M22 transmission. At one time the car was owned by Paul Newman and Bill Freeman of Newman-Freeman Racing. The current owners acquired the car in 1992.
