1967 Porsche 911R Coupe

There were four new variations on the 911 in 1967-8, namely the Sportmatic, S, T, and the 911 R. The R designation meant a lightened car with thinner sheet metal and a racing engine with 210 bhp at 8000 rpm. This particular example is one of only 20 made and has an extensive period racing history. The original owner of this car was noted racecar driver Lance Reventlow, son of Woolworth heiress Barbra Hutton.

The fiberglass-bodied, lightweight, 906-engined 911R failed in its attempt to be a homologation loophole race car, but found life as a rally car, winning the Tour de France and Tour de Corsica in 1969.
One of 20 production cars. The 911R model is the first pure-race 911 that Porsche ever built and this particular automobile is the last of the 20 that Porsche had built by Karl Baur coachworks of Stuttgart. This car was originally ordered for Woolworth's heir and Scarab car constructor/driver, Lance Reventlow through Zipper Porsche in Beverly Hills, Ca. Reventlow cancelled his order before delivery so the car - finished in 'reventlow blue', the Scarab team color - went to Vasck Polak Porsche who sold it to Porsche club event competitor Bert Olander. It then went to Jim Lipps, who drove it on the street only. The motor failed at some point and the crankcase halves were replaced at that time with correct new magnesium Porsche parts.
