1956 Chrysler New Yorker Navigation
Chrysler designer Virgil Exner's fascination with jet aircraft is showcased in the 'Powerstyle' 1956 Chrysler. Flamboyant 'Flight-Swept' rear fenders highlighted a new wedge-shaped 'Forward Look of motion.' These jet-inspired Chryslers were offered in three series: the popular Windsor, the prestigious New Yorker, and the limited-edition 300 models. The New Yorker offered easy-driving luxury with industry-first 'Pushbutton PowerFlite' automatic transmission, 'PowerPilot' steering, and 'Powersmooth' Brakes. With its standard 354-cubic-inch, 280 horsepower V8, the New Yorker really was '18 gleaming feet of power eager to call you master.'
This New Yorker was ordered for New York Radio/TV personality Robert Q. Lewis in 1956. Purchased in 1961 by John Cote's father as the family car, it has remained in the Cote family ever since.
The owners honeymooned in the car and have survived a 4-year body-off restoration of the vehicle.
Rare factory options included are a 'Chryslermatic' self-winding steering wheel clock and a Chrysler 16 2/3 'Highway HI-FI' record player.
Of the 921 produced, fewer than 25 are thought to exist today.
