1994 Porsche 911 Flachbau Coupe

As production of the 964 was nearing its end in August of 1993, Porsche informed its dealer network of a final and limited series of special Turbo S Flachbau, or flatnose, models to be built with the help of the factory's Exclusive Department. The Turbo S was based on the Turbo 3.6, and given cosmetic and mechanical improvements, along with Porsche's famous flatnose front-end treatment. In the front were pop-up headlights sourced from the 928/968 Series. Other exclusive design features included front and rear bumpers, 959-style rear-quarter air vents, a special body-color rear spoiler, and unique Turbo S badging.

Powering the Turbo 3.6 S Flachbau was the Type M64/50S engine, developed for the 1994 model year and internally designated by production code X88. It had a larger turbocharger, revised camshafts, redesigned cylinder heads, modified inlet manifolds, and adjustments to valve timing. The result of the tuning was 385 horsepower, an increase of 30 horsepower over the Turbo 3.6 version. Other modifications included a front-mounted auxiliary oil cooler and distinctive four-pipe exhaust system.

Zero-to-sixty took just 4.7 seconds on its way to a top speed approaching 175 mph.

Between November 1993 and January 1994, just 76 examples of the 964 Turbo 3.6 S Flachbau were built. The first group built, designated by code X83, were created specifically for the Japanese market. A total of 10 of these were built, all configured in left-hand drive and identically finished in Polar Silver Metallic. They were given unique Flachbau treatment, which made use of the earlier 930/944-style front end, along with 930-style boxed rocker panels and rear-quarter air vents.

The second group of cars, designated by code X84, consisted of Rest-of-World models, of which 27 examples were built. 15 of these were configured as left-hand drive and 12 in right-hand drive configuration. The X84 cars were given more modern Flachbau treatment, and most were sent to Singapore and Germany.

The third group of cars, designated by Code X85, were built for the United States market and similar in style to the X84 models, but with minor cosmetic differences. A total of 39 examples of the X85 Turbo S 3.6 Flachbau were built, with the majority of those painted Black or Guards Red.

These limited edition special models were sold to some of Porsche's most important customers, including Vasek Polak, the Sultan of Brunei, and NBA superstar Michael Jordan.

This particular example is the only one finished in Polar Silver Metallic. It was factory equipped with driver's seat four-way electrical lumbar support, sunroof, 18-inch polished three-piece Speedline wheels, wheel caps with the Porsche crest, and draped Classic Grey leather upholstery. It also had a base price of $164,866 MSRP.

The car was completed on December 3rd of 1993 and sold new through Brumos Porsche. Its first owner was Dr. Randall Riegler of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida who acquired it in February of 1994. It is believed that the car remained with Dr. Diegler for over two decades and drove it sparingly. In the Spring of 2014, the car entered the Jerry Seinfeld collection from a Southern California-based collection.

Currently, the car shows just 12,545 miles.
