The Citroen 2CV was basically four wheels under an umbrella. It was minimalistic, economical, and able to be driven on any type of road. It was designed by Pierre Boulanger who stressed the goal of driving the 2 CV through a rough field with a basket of eggs without breaking any. Power was from a flat twin, air-cooled unit which overhung the front wheels. The early cars had a 375cc displacement offering eight horsepower.
The cars were inexpensive, indestructible and easy to maintain. They were capable of 50 miles per gallon. Modifications were made throughout its very long lifespan, lasting from 1949 through 1990, with over 5 million examples produced.
