This 1963 Corvette is on display at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. Dick Coup created the all-hand-built car. It was inspired by the Chaparral of Jim Hall. In 1964 Dick saw the car lead the first lap of the Sebring race, and after learning more about what a Grand Sport was, he decided he wanted to build one. He purchased an engine and a six-speed transmission from Chevrolet, and a body and frame from D&D Corvette in 1996. After eight years of carefully putting the car together, it was on the show circuit for five years, at shows for a year and then retired to Dick's barn. Dick donated the car to the Corvette Museum.
Dick worked for a company that made medical tools, and used surplus materials on this car including stainless medical lag screws, chrome cobalt artificial hip joint heads for the inside door handles, a scoliosis spinal support fixation rod for the trunk door rod and more.
