1951 Nash Rambler Convertible Vehicle Profile

1951 Nash Rambler photograph

1951 Nash Rambler
Nash-Kelvinator head George Mason was a conservative individual, yet he boldly gambled that American car buyers would respond to aerodynamic styling that offered both comfort and reliability.

After World War II came to a close, Nash re-focused their efforts on producing affordable compact cars. In 1949, Nash released their new wind tunnel developed Airflyte design. The cars were aerodynamic and featured a unibody construction which Nash claimed was stronger, safer and eliminated body noise. With the lowest drag coefficient of any American car to date, they delivered exceptional gas mileage, too. The Rambler was introduced in 1950. Period brochures stated that the Rambler was capable of up to 30 miles to the gallon at highway speed. The first generation Rambler continued through 1952.

For 1951, the Nash Rambler received a new model called the Country Club Hardtop. Other body styles in the lineup included a convertible, hardtop coupe, club sedan, station wagon, and utility wagon. Power was from a six-cylinder engine displacing 172.6 cubic-inches and offering 82 horsepower.

This Rambler Convertible was built in Kenosha WI. It features a roll-back roof with fixed side windows. It has been part of the Dezer Collection since 1986.
