The Datsun 240 Z was introduced to the United States market in 1970, and it quickly became one of the most recognized and best-selling sports cars in America. Offering a well-balanced package with spirited performance, it was everything a person could want in an affordable and sport automobile.

In Japan, in the early 1970s, the ultimate expression of performance and handling was the Nissan Fairlady Z432. Built and homologated specifically for racing, the Z432's are powered by the legendary S20 dual overhead cam race bred inline 6-cylinder engine. The '432' refers to the four valves per cylinder, three carburetors and twin camshafts. It is believed that a mere 420 of these cars were produced from 1970 through 1973.

The Japan-only HS30-H Nissan Fairlady ZG was released in Japan in October 1971 to homologate the 240Z for Group 4 racing. The differences between the Fairlady ZG and the export market Datsun 240Z include a rear spoiler, five speed transmission, limited slip rear differential, 'lap timer' version clock, acrylic glass headlight covers, fender-mounted rear-view mirrors, an extended fiberglass 'aero-dyna' nose, and wide over-fenders riveted to the body. The Fairlady ZG was available in three colors including Grande Prix White, Grande Prix Maroon, and Grand Prix Red. The 'G' in the Fairlady ZG name represents 'Grande.'

The Fairlady ZG was not sold in the United States and was never sold outside of Japan. In order to be eligible for competition in the United States, Nissan sold the nose kit as a dealer's option, which is known as the 'G-nose.' The 240Zs fitted with the nose are often referred to as 240ZGs, outside Japan.

This particular example is a 1972 Nissan Fairlady ZG. Not much is known of this car's early history. It was first registered in September 1972 in Shinegawa District of Tokyo. In 2013, it was bought in Japan from JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) specialist Vintage Yoshino. It was imported and titled by a US-based individual who is knowledgeable about the Japanese Domestic Market collector car market.

In 2016, this unique and very special vehicle was brought to The Finest auction at The Elegance of Hershey where it had a pre-auction estimated value of $65,000 - $85,000. Those figures proved nearly accurate, as the lot was sold for the sum of $60,000 including buyer's premium.
