1974 Porsche Carrera IROC RSR Coupe

  • Chassis Number: 911 460 0016
  • Engine Number: 6840034
This particular example is the earliest IROC RSR by serial number. It is production number 104 0209 and was originally finished in Light Yellow and equipped with a type 911/74 engine, numbered 6840021.

The first three races were held at Riverside International Raceway in California in October of 1973 and the final race was held on February 14th of 1974, at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. At the debut race, the racing scenario proved successful as the first place car was separated by just three seconds from the last place car. Peter Revson drove this car to a 3rd Place finish. Gordon Johncock drove the car in the second race but failed to finish after being struck in the passenger door by another car. The car was repaired and sat out the last round at Riverside. It returned to the track in Daytona, where it was piloted by George Follmer. He was battling Donohue for the lead when he spun the RSR. While trying to get back on track, he broke the gearbox and was forced to retire from the race.

The car was then sold to Greg Egerton, who raced it in a Trans Am race at Lime Rock just a few months after its race in Daytona. It raced in several important US races during 1974 and 1975, where it was driven by Elliot Forbes-Robinson, Grey Egerton, Milt Minter, and Cale Yarborough. It would go on to win an IMSA race at Laguna Seca and secure Top-10 finishes at Ontario, Daytona, and Riverside.

After the 1975 racing season, Mr. Egerton sold the RSR to Vasek Polak. Mr. Polak had the car refinished in white with red and blue stripes and fitted it with an earlier 2.8-liter engine. It remained in static storage for many years.

Tom Linton of Santa Fe, New Mexico purchased the car in May of 1998 from Vasek Polak's estate. Mr. Linton commissioned Jim Torres of Burbank Coachworks to complete a comprehensive and exacting restoration, bringing it back to its original IROC livery and specification. During the work, an original type 911/74 engine (number 6840034) was sourced and installed. By 2000, the IROC RSR had been completed restored to its original Light Yellow livery and specification. It made its restoration debut at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in March of 2000, and later actively campaigned in historic events. The car also took part in Rennsport Reunion I and II.

In February of 2005, the car was acquired by Mr. Jerry Seinfeld.
