The second generation Riviera made its debut for the 1966 model year. It was designed by renowned GM designer, David Holls, who also designed the famous 1957 Cadillac and influenced many young designers as a professor at The College of Creative Studies. His design for the Riviera gave the car a flowing and athletic form, devoid of excess trim. Dave Holls himself assisted in ordering this particular car and specified the colors, options and trim for his friend, Mr. A. Cornacchia. Finished in Fawn Mist, this car was built exactly the way its designer wanted it to look.
The most significant change for 1967 was the adoption of Buick's entirely new 430 cubic-inch V8 which produced 360 horsepower and 475 pound feet of torque. Cosmetically, changes were few, and were limited to the addition of a wide, full-width, center-mounted horizontal chrome grille bar that stretched over the headlight doors and outboard parking lights. Sales eased to 42,799 for the 1967 model year. 1967 also saw the introduction of the U.S. mandated equipment to improve occupant safety, including an energy-absorbing steering column, non-protruding control knobs, 4-way hazard flasher, soft interior surfaces, locking seat backs, a dual-circuit hydraulic braking system (with warning light), and shoulder belt anchors.
This car, which was originally delivered to Grosse Point, Michigan, is mostly original and has always lived in the metro Detroit area. Its current owner is one of the country's foremost collectors and experts on Rivieras.
