The Appia was produced by Lancia from 1953-1963. It is known for its strength, durability, and ability to last forever with minimum care and maintenance. Powered by a 1100cc four-cylinder engine, it provides great mileage and is said to capture the essence of Lancia heritage in a simpler, more modest, and practical automobile.
The current owners purchased this car from the original family owners after the owner's daughter offered the car for sale in 1996. Negotiations took place over the phone and being a true single-family-owned and all-original car, they knew they had run across an opportunity that rarely comes up. A price was agreed on, pending a personal inspection, and a week later the family drove to Indianapolis to inspect the car. After driving through some rather questionable areas, they arrived to find the daughter's home. Led to a garage in the back, they found a rather plain and somewhat dirty Appia looking a bit neglected. Upon closer inspection, they realized what they were looking at was indeed a true time capsule.
Today the car is pretty much the way it was then, although considerably cleaner. Simple maintenance was performed over the years, which made this rarely-seen automobile a fun and drivable classic.
