1993 Jaguar XJ220 Coupe

Jaguar is an iconic British brand. It boasts a long and storied heritage of dashing styling, high performance, and memorable racing victories stretching back many decades. Two motorcycle enthusiasts founded it in 1922 and began building cars in 1935. After World War II, they began crafting a well-deserved reputation for creating dashing styling and high performance as a steady stream of sexy sports cars and purpose-built race cars rolled out of their British factory.

The XJ220 was built from 1992 to 1994, a short but memorable run. Originally designed to have a V12 and four-wheel drive, it was unveiled to the public at the 1988 British Motor Show. The concept was a smashing success and 1,500 deposits were made on the spot and delivery scheduled for 1992. Due to engineering requirements, major design changes were made, including the V12 being replaced with a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6. About this time, the economy swooned and the collector car coughed. Many buyers reneged on their purchase options and when it was all said and done, a mere 275 XJ220's had been produced.

This car was one of 37 unsold factory cars that made their way to the United States. Because the XJ220 is not certified to be driven on United States roads, its original owner had to obtain NHTSA permission after agreeing that it would be used only as a show car and would not be driven more than 2,500 miles per year to and from events. This car has just 2,820 miles on the odometer.
