2016 McLaren 650S Navigation
McLaren Automotive introduced the McLaren 650S in February of 2014, formally unveiling it at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. It shares the MP4-12C's carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer chassis, and is powered by the same McLaren M838T 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8. It makes 641 horsepower and 500 pound feet of torque. Power gets to the pavement through a seven-speed, near instantaneous-shift, dual-clutch gearbox. Cementing its bona fides in the Supercar club, the 650S claims a top speed of 207 miles per hour and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds.
The convertible 650S Spider weighs 88 pounds more than the coupe at 3,239 pounds, but it offers nearly identical heart-pounding performance. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 in three seconds and has a top speed of 204 miles per hour.
McLaren also developed a race-ready version of the 650S featuring a new 6-speed sequential racing transmission, vented disc brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston units in back, a wider track, and revised suspension geometry. It is distinguished from the road car by larger air intakes and a front splitter, carbon fiber air intakes and anew rear wing. The 650S achieved its biggest success when it won the 2016 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour race in Australia, setting a new lap record with a time of 2:01.567 in February of this year.
