This is one of five or six experimental Cords built in 1936 powered by a supercharged V8 engine and bearing coachwork by LeBaron. None of these experimental prototypes were sold to the public; they were used by Cord company officials - and this limousine was used by E.L. Cord himself along with his wife and his son Charles Cord. It was used initially at their home in Chicago and then at their Beverly Hills estate in Los Angeles until about 1940. The prototypes were originally designed for a proposed line of cars dubbed 'baby' Duesenbergs, and they would have been fitted with the new Auburn V12 engines. That project did not materialize, so the cars were eventually equipped with the Cord V8.
