1948 Delahaye 135 MS Vedette Cabriolet

This Delahaye Type 135 Cabriolet was built for the 1948 Paris Salon de l'Automobile. The MS chassis was one of the most sporting variants of the Type 135, in production from 1935 to 1954. Henri Chapron designed the sleek two-seat body, naming it 'Vedette' (star, or celebrity), and it is one of only four known today. The interior is as interesting as its exterior, with features like a clear acrylic steering wheel. After the salon the cabriolet was sold to a M. Chanel of Paris, and in 1951, Otto Zipper bought the car, having fallen in love with it at the salon. Over the years and under different owners it was repainted several times, most notably by Hollywood magician Ed Smith, who changed the car's color scheme four times. Its current owner bought the car in 1979 and spent two years restoring it in striking green, a color mixed for him by his friend Phil Hill.
