In 1948, Alfredo Vignale opened his shop, and by 1953 the Torino Motor Show was filled with show cars by Carrozzeria Vignale. This car is one of two Fiat 1100s designed by Giovanni Michelotti and built by Carrozzeria Vignale, and it was first shown at the 1953 Turin Auto Show. Its first owner is not known, but by 1954, it was owned by Harrison Godwin, a resident of Carmel, California. This Fiat 1100 Vignale was shown at the 1955 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and was featured in an article in the July 1956 issue of Motor Life magazine. When it was shown at the 1955 Pebble Beach Concours, it was painted red with a black top, and was awarded Second in Class.
In 1967 Godwin drove it to Portland, Oregon, but the Fiat developed an engine problem and it was left at a repair shop where it remained for a number of years. In 1984 it was purchased by Mike Malone. A restoration was planned but never took place, and the forlorn but complete little Fiat was sold to the present owner in 2008. He commissioned a thorough restoration, which was completed in 2015. It returned to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2016, 61 years after it was first seen there.
This car is finished in Velvet Green and Black over Pumpkin leather. After being shown in 2016 at Pebble Beach, it was shown at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, where it won the Designer's Choice Trophy. In 2017, the coupe earned a Best in Class award at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.
