1970 Austin Mini Navigation
This Mini Cooper S is a Mark II version completed on January 27, 1970 at the Longbridge Plant just outside Birmingham in England's Midlands and was specially constructed for Kjell Qvale, founder of British Motor Car Distributors in San Francisco. It is thought to be the last Mini Cooper S imported in the Western half of the U.S. and is one of perhaps 79 1,275cc models brought in. The Mark II Mini (1967 to 1970), featured a revised grille and a larger rear window amongst a raft of less obvious modifications. 1971 saw the Mark III, again with mild exterior and interior changes but this Miniseries never came to the United States. Austin was wanting you to buy an Austin America instead.
