1968 Ferrari 330 Navigation
This Ferrari 330 GTS was sent to Carrozzeria Pininfarina in Torino in the fall of 1967. It was completed in the color scheme of Argento (metallic silver) with Rosso Scuro (dark red) leather upholstery, and was specified for United States delivery and equipped with optional Borrani wire wheels, air-conditioning, and instrumentation in miles. It was shipped to Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada in January of 1968. William F. Harrah selected the 330 GTS for his personal use and in late 1969, gave the car to his new bride, country singer Bobbie Gentry. Earlier in 1969, Mr. Harrah equipped the car with a special Targa top. The Targa conversion was featured in an article in the December 1969 issue of Road & Track.
Mr. Harrah approached Ferrari to gauge their interest in production a limited series of 20 similar cars. They sent a representative to Nevada but ultimate decided against the idea stating the model was nearing the end of its production run.
After Mr. Harrah's marriage to Ms. Gentry dissolved in 1970, the Ferrari 330 GTS was offered for sale. In July 1973, Modern Classic Motors sold the car to Robert Donner Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, who paid $17,500 for the customized 2,300-mile Ferrari. During his ownership, the car was driven approximately 20,000 miles and was exhibited on rare occasions. Mr. Donner passed away in 2010, and a few years later the 330 GTS was sold to Los Angeles-based collector Mark Haddawy. Mr. Haddawy removed the Targa top and commissioned Beckman Metal Works in Costa Mesa, California, to return the car to its convertible configuration and refinish the bodywork in the original color.
The four-owner car currently shows just over 27,000 miles on the odometer. It has its matching-numbers engine and transaxle, original red leather upholstery, Borrani wire wheels, window glass, and keys.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2016
