Richard Petty and Ford teamed up to build a special edition of the Mustang for the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Just 143 examples were built by the crew at Petty's Garage, the King's own high-performance speed shop founded in 2008 and operating out of Randleman, North Carolina. The Petty Mustang's were given plenty of performance upgrades from Ford Racing and Rousch Performance. Under the hood is the car's Coyote 5.0 liter V8, which is fitted with a Ford Racing Rousch TVS 2300 Supercharger and cold-air intake, custom engine calibration and a Magnaflow stainless-steel exhaust system to produce 627 horsepower. Power was sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission to custom 20-inch Petty's Garage HRE FlowForm wheels wearing Continental tires.
Modifications to the body included a front fascia custom-designed and made by Petty's garage, who also produced the rear fascia with center-exit exhaust opening and prominent NASCAR-inspired rear spoiler. The modifications continued to the interior, with custom-embroidered head rests, floor mats and Richard Petty's own signature on the dash.
This particular example is one of 43 Mustangs built with the Stage II option package, which adds special two-tone paint that recreates the SEMA show car's combination of pearlized Ford Tuxedo Black over Petty Blue blended with crushed and tumbled glass; Petty's famous number 43 ghosted into the hood and C-pillars. The HRE wheel rims and Wilwood disc brake calipers, in Petty Blue, are also part of the Stage II package.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2016
