1999 Plymouth Prowler Roadster

The retro-styled Plymouth Prowler was introduced in 1997. It Hot Rod genre was something other manufacturers were not doing at the time. The factory-built Hot Rod was equipped with a 24-valve, 3.5-liter single overhead valve V-6 engine mated to a rear-mounted 4-speed Autostick automatic transmission. 214 horsepower was sent to the rear wheels via a torque tube. It had nearly 50/50 weight distribution which gave superb handling and supercar-like balance. Aluminum was used extensively in the construction, helping to keep its weight down to just 2800 pound weight.

The V-6 was improved upon in 1999 with an aluminum block version that offered 253 horsepower. This brought the zero-to-sixty time from 7 seconds to just under 6 seconds. Top speed increased from 118 MPH to 126 MPH.

By the time production ended in 2002, 11,702 Plymouth and Chrysler Prowlers had been built.
