Innovative Styling Was Designer's Favorite
Entering its fourth year, Buick's successful Riviera received a major restyling. Extolled by GM Styling Chief Dave Holls as his personal favorite design, the crisp new look of the 1966 Riviera included a radically sloped windshield, a semi-fastback roofline and innovative ventless side glass. Inside, the instrument panel featured a unique rolling drum speedometer.
In this final year for the legendary Buick 'nailhead' V8, a 425 cubic-inch version was standard in the Riviera. The available Gran Sport (GS) option included quicker steering, upgraded suspension, a performance axle ratio and an engine dress-up kit.
The Silver Mist colored Riviera GS shown was acquired by the current owner in 1978. It is one of only 179 cars to be factory-equipped with the optional dual carburetor 'Super Wildcat' engine. It also featured authentic triple stripe whitewall tires that were exclusive to the Riviera.
