1970 Chevrolet Chevelle RPO Z15 Super Sport 454 V8 Convertible

In 1970, GM lifted their edict against engines with displacement capacities larger than 400 CID in intermediate cars. Chevrolet quickly responded by installing a 454 CID into the Chevelle. Although never officially advertised, the Regular Production Option (RPO) LS6 package was available to the public if they knew who and what to ask for. With a wheelbase measuring out to 112-inches, it was the perfect home for the big block engine. Equipped with big-valve cylinder heads, a 780 CFM Holley carburetor, solid-lifter camshaft and a 4-bolt main block, it conjured up a stratospheric 11.25:1 compression ratio, 450 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque. Many believed those horsepower and torque numbers were conservative to appease the emissions and safety professionals. Buyers were also given the option of an automatic or 4-speed manual transmission. The rarest of the breed is the LS6 Chevelle Convertible, with an estimated 18 examples remaining in modern times.

This particular Chevelle SS Convertible is powered by the 454/450 HP big block V8 with an automatic transmission. It has power steering, power brakes, power windows and a power convertible top. The exterior is Cranberry red with black stripes and interior. It has been given a comprehensive restoration. It is believed that the car has been driven just 51,000 miles since new.
