Until the debut of the Chrysler Airflow, most cars of the period were the typical two-box design. They were more aerodynamically efficient when moving backward than they were when driven forward. The Airflow resolved that issue. It also shifted weight forward at a time when most fully loaded cars carried up to 75% of their weight on the rear wheels. This caused the cars to handle poorly and required stiff rear springs, hampering passenger comfort.
This car was purchased, by Chrysler, from a private owner in 1996. It has been a part of the FCA collection since then.
