This Miller (and later Offenhauser) powered car had an exceptionally long career, having been built in 1932 (by Louis 'Curly' Wetteroth) and still was qualifying as late as 1947. Originally the property of retired driver Harry Hartz, it was to have been driven in 1932 by wealthy sportsman Cliff Durant, but when Durant changed his mind, 1931 runner-up Fred Frame took over as his replacement. Starting all the way back in 27th, Frame was forced by overheating problems to make the then - usually high number of six pit stops. But sheer speed carried him to the front and he was never headed after lap 152. Frame led further laps in it in 1933, after which Ted Horn finished second, third, and fourth between 1936 and 1938. Veteran Tony Bettenhausen drove this car as a 'rookie' in 1946.
