1941 Wetteroth Noc-Out Hose Clamp Special Navigation
The much-storied 'Curly' Wetteroth-built Noc-Out Hose Clamp Special was already in its third race when Floyd Davis and Mauri Rose co-drove it to victory in 1941. With Rose's pole-winning Maserati sidelined at 60 laps and Davis running a distant 12th, team owner Lou Moore instructed Davis to come in and hand over to Rose, who had driven the Davis car to third the year before. Charging up through the field, Rose took the lead for the final 38 laps. In addition to being driven by Ted Horn, Joie Chitwood and Sam Hanks, and being assigned to future '500' winners Troy Ruttman and Bob Sweikert as 'rookies' in 1949 and 1950, respectively, the car participated in NASCAR's short-lived Speedway division in 1952, driver Buck Baker winning the title with a V8 Cadillac engine replacing the Offenhauser.
