2014 BMW Z4 GTLM Navigation
The BMW Z4 GTLM is based on the BMW Z4 GT3 customer race car sold in Europe, which is based on the Z4 Roadster street car, whose current generation launched in Spring 2009.
The change in designation from GT3 to GTLM signifies the substantial changes made to accommodate IMSA rules for entry to the Tudo United Sports Car Championship, the series launched in 2014 following the merger of the American LeMans Series (ALMS) and Grand-Am. The highly adaptable Z4 GTLM was chose as the 'bridge car' to see BMW Team RLL through the merger and the likely number of Balance of Performance ('BOP') changes to come with it.
BMW built a total of three chassis to Z4 GTLM specification in 2013, and two of them (Chassis 1301 & 1302) raced for two years. The third was retained as a test car in Munich. BMW Team RLL first entered the Z4 in the 2013 season, the final season of ALMS, as No. 55 and No. 56, in Frozen Black and Alpine White livery schemes, respectively. Chassis 1302 (this car) was raced full-time as No. 56 (white) in 2013-2014 by Dirk Muller and John Edwards.
BMW Team RLL won twice in 2013, with chassis 1302 the victor at Lime Rock Park. The team secured no wins in 2014, but proudly secured two pole-position starts.
Chassis 1302 now serves as the show car for the 2015 BMW - Sebring 40 Years tribute livery, while sister car 1301 severs as the backup car for 2015. Two new Z4 GTLM chassis were constructed for the 2015 season.
