After the Porsche factory stopped building RSR's in 1975 those who knew the reliability and performance of what Porsche had created built their own cars utilizing proven 'World Class Technology' with components still available from the factory.
This RSR was built in the late 1970's from a 1977 911S body by privateer Ted Hulse and was extensively raced in IMSA/FIA/SCCA races starting in 1978 until it was retired in 1996. After being stored until the early 2000's, John Starkey purchased the car. Finally in 2007 the restoration began for new owner Jim Oppenheimer. After its restoration it was eligible to be raced in all the premier Vintage Races around the world. As with some of these plans, things didn't work out and the car was sold and changed hands a few times, spending time in private car collections and never seeing a race track.
The car was finally purchased in December of 2012 by Steve and Dannielle Schmidt of Newport Beach, California and became part of their Porsche Race car collection. Since their purchase, Steve decided to freshen up the car and re-fit the body panels and paint the car, assuring its competitiveness in vintage racing.
