1957 Chevrolet Corvette SS Roadster

The 1957 Corvette Super Sport is Chevrolet's first Super Sport car. In 1957 it was shown at the Waldorf Astoria in New York and the Chicago Auto Show to debut Chevrolet's ramjet fuel injection. This GM-styling Corvette was built in late 1956 at a cost that exceeded $18,000. The Super Sport is a one-of-a-kind show car that features unique items such as pearl white paint contrasted with a blue leather interior, cup holders, a steering column-mounted tachometer and a one-off dash with a center console. It rolled on U.S. Royal XP-140 experimental tires branded with Corvette crossed flags embedded in its sidewalls. The engine was 283 c.i. unit developing 283 horsepower and was Chevrolet's first engine to achieve 1 horsepower per cubic inch. With 4,372 original miles, it retains its original drive train and interior, and is a piece of GM history.
