1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Sport Coupe

This is number 41 of 90 Camaro vehicles delivered to the Daytona Speedway in December 1979 to be modified by Bill Mitchell a well-known specialist in Camaro modifications for a dealer drive away program that was conceived by long time IMSA racer Tom Nehl. The drive away Z28s were modeled after a production based Camaro race car that was entered in the 1980 24 hours of Daytona. The race car was entered in order to publicize the newly engineered 1980 Z-28 Camaro. Chevy's advertising focused on CHEVY CAMARO-THE HUGGER and this theme was followed at Chevy's request. In keeping with this theme all 90 Street Huggers received a decal package, Minilite wheels and other parts that emulated the race car. This particular car was ordered by Burchfield Chevrolet in St. Cloud, FL and was the only one produced with a 4-speed transmission.

This car was found in 2014 with 830 original miles under piles of boxes and materials from the dealership in an unused warehouse with complete dealer documentation. It survived several hurricanes and had never been sold. The current owner was part of the project team who modified all 90 street Camaros and crewed the race car as well.
