In 1966, with the blessing of Enzo Ferrari, Luigi Chinetti created a new spider based on the Pininfarina designed 275 GTB coupe for the American market. Chinetti collaborated with coach-builder Sergio Scaglietti and they produced this car, naming it in honor of Chinetti's North American Racing Team (NART).
The first of ten, it was one of two bodied in aluminum. This car was shipped to the U.S. in time for the 1967 12 Hours of Sebring. It was driven to a second in class by Denise McCluggage and Pinkie Rollo. Originally painted Giallo Solare (Solar Yellow) it was re-painted burgundy and delivered to Boston and featured in the 'Thomas Crown Affair' starring Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen. It was driven by Faye Dunaway and admired by Steve McQueen who later bought one. After filming, #09437 was driven to Lime Rock Park for a Road & Track magazine cover feature, wherein it was described as 'the most satisfying sports car in the world.' It was then sold to a collector who had it restored to its original brilliant color.
